Greater Chicago Trauma Recovery Network
Mission and Who We Are
We are a local chapter of the EMDR Trauma Recovery Network (or TRN), EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Program (HAP), a national program designed to respond to those effected by psychological trauma resulting from natural and man-made disasters, gun violence, and other trauma related issues that have resulted in loss of life. We need your EMDR expertise to support our mission to respond to major events that cause trauma. The Greater Chicago Area Trauma Recovery Network was initially founded to help provide trauma resources in response to gun violence. Most recently, the Greater Chicago Area TRN was activated in response to the Highland Park July 4th parade shooting.

What Does It Mean To Be A TRN Volunteer?
Greater Chicago Area TRN volunteers agree to provide up to 5 pro bono EMDR sessions to those effected by natural and man-made disasters, gun violence, and crime. By volunteering, you agree to be added to a list of area EMDR therapists that can be contacted by the Greater Chicago Area TRN to see if you are available to offer up to 5 pro bono session to meet with victims and/or first responders in the event of a major trauma. Your name and contact information will not be public and will only be forwarded to a potential client if you respond to the request for EMDR sessions. In addition, in the event of a mass tragedy, you will be contacted by the Greater Chicago Area TRN to help provide on the ground support for survivors and/or first responders if you are available. Who Can Be A TRN Volunteer Therapist?
To be a TRN volunteer therapist, you must be licensed mental health professional in the State of Illinois (LCSW, LCPC, LMFT, PsyD, LSW, LPC, etc) and hold independent professional liability unless your volunteer work is approved by your agency's or employer's malpractice. In addition, you must have completed an EMDRIA approved basic training, completed Part I and II, and completed the 10 required consultation hours.
Is There Additional Support Offered To TRN Volunteer Therapists?
YES! Free clinical consultation is offered to Chicago area volunteer therapists. All you have to do is reach out to the TRN Executive Committee Staff and let them know what your needs are. In addition, any consultation you receive will go towards certification hours if needed.
What Happens If I Sign Up But Am Not Available At The Time There Is A Need?
We understand how busy all of us are as EMDR therapists. Signing up in no way obligates you to provide sessions if you are not available. Just let us know and we will try and find someone with availability.
How Do I Sign Up?
Go to the following link and fill out a volunteer registration form. Your information will be forwarded to us as the local TRN and you will be added to our list.
